Master Songbird and the Chinese Butterfly Brigade

So The Secret Machines were great. We got to ACL early enough to get up front for the show and it was well worth it. After that we watched The Shins from about a mile away. They were still really good though. Caught a few songs from Aimee Mann before meeting up with folks for the Sufjan show. She did "Save Me" and "One Is the Loneliest Number" from the Magnolia soundtrack.

Sufjan Stevens and company were fantastic. They all wore wings. Sufjan referred to himself as The master Songbird and the band as The Chinese Butterfly Brigade. He said the wings were because they would be doing songs on the themes of "joy, transcendence, and elevation." There was a big screen behind them and it played things like out-of-focus fireworks and kaleidoscopes during the songs. They closed with an encore of "Chicago." definitely one of the best shows I've ever been to. And he was selling t-shirts and CDs for $10. That's unheard of at a concert like that.

Earlier today I dropped off Alex, Kate, and Bo at ACL. When I got back to Pearce's it started raining really hard and I was glad I wasn't out there. I think I'll go in a few hours for Damian Marley, Jose Gonzales, and The Flaming Lips. Then hopefully meet up with Mosaic folks for dinner. This weekend is going too fast...
