medieval bloggers, canoe, and saved by the bell

two interesting things about blogs:

1. they can get you fired. it's true. i read a story in the washington post about a woman who was fired from her job for bad mouthing the company online. even though she refrained from naming co-workers and even the company, it was traced back to her and she got the ol' pink slip. if you get fired for blogging, they call it "dooced." as in, "he blogged about the CEO's bad hair-piece and got dooced." bloggers beware.

2. blogs are the new threat/alternative/bee buzzing around the old buffalo of mainstream media (that's arundhati roy's clever metaphor, not mine). i saw a funny editorial cartoon that compared mainstream media to an old medieval castle and bloggers to thousands of well-armed citizen invaders storming the gates. this is exciting to think about if you ask me. heaven knows how we'll verify the truth but it sure makes for more a more interesting and personal look at what's going on in the world. though most of us bloggers (like myself) are only rambling on about their own tiny lives.

i love austin. so far, it's the best city in the whole united states of america. tomorrow night i'm going to a show at a place called the parrish where i will see i love you but i've chosen darkness, the arm, and canoe. an old friend from cedar hill is in the band canoe. i haven't seen him in years. hopefully we can catch up. we used to play pearl jam songs in his garage. he knew all the lead solos. i just played the chords.

tonight on kvrx, i heard the funniest radio show i've ever heard. i think it's called something like, i'm so excited, i'm so...so...scared! that memorable line from saved by the bell in the episode where jessi spano gets all coked-up on caffeine pills. the show is done by a few guys and they just talk about saved by the bell, and this guy on there knows more than probably my sister, and that says a lot. anyway, they apparently had mr. belding do an interview and had over a thousand students there and it turns out he's kind of flaky in real life and just wanted to hang out on 6th street. that's funny and sad.

then they started talking about getting ferguson or sam from clarissa explains it all and i was laughing out loud in my car. they were offering freebies if you called in with any teacher's name from the show and i wanted to call and tell them ms. bliss, but i couldn't get to them on time. if you ever want to get a good laugh tune in to kvrx or go to their website and listen at 7:30 on wednesdays.

okay. if you made it to the end i'm impressed. you're wonderful.
