sufjan, the colour revolution, and anathallo

there is so much buzz about this guy right now. and most of it's probably rightly so. here's a really good interview/article in the village voice.

we went and saw our good friends from mississippi, colour revolt play with anathallo and rayleen at the door dallas. i'm not just saying this because i love them, colour revolt is one of my favorite bands. you should check out "mattresses underwater" on their myspace. anathallo amazed me also... popping red ballons as a percussion instrument, jumping around in stomp-esque rhythm, horns, keys, guitars, multiple bass drums. it was truly original and one of the most creative shows i have seen in a very long time. think polyphonic spree meets sufjan stevens meets a drum circle meets all those kids from high school that were really good in band and choir. it was great.
