convent of the 21st century!

fire and building inspectors today. i was amazed at how foreign and baffling this idea of community is to them. they don't know what kind of classification to put on us because community house isn't rental property occupied by private residents and it's not one over-sized family (biologically anyway). sarah said that to them, it's like we live on the moon. i tried to explain the whole "501 D" non-profit thing, which basically means we are classified the same as a monastery or convent. i was then promptly remined that i'm a male and therfore could not be a nun. wow. i know they're just trying to do the job of protecting us and the city and their own jobs. it just made me laugh - how inconceivable this community life was to them. like they were looking at some baffling oddity or anachronism of society. which, i guess is really what the Church is anyway.

hey metalmeister.

your also like the postmeister lately.

community is too metally metal for easy listening inspectors anyway. you should have answered their lame questions with metastically righteous indignation and air guitar solos.

my overabundance of posts lately is due to the fact that cat allowed me to out her laptop computer in my room while she's away. so thanks cat!

i'm glad you're making use of my laptop while i'm away... but you know, of course, that i don't have to be out of the state for you to borrow it.

it IS amazing how foreign the idea of community is to so many people. my friends were explaining our community to some people, and their immediate assessment was that those who live in community or meet in house churches are always people who have problems with authority. hmm... i'm sure it was also quite helpful for the inspector to point out that you cannot be a nun. genius!
